The "ASIAN" Air Permeability Tester for textiles is used for air permeability testing of the fabrics. Digital and analog models are available. This system consists of an arrangement for holding the test specimens between two flat faces so as to expose a known area to the flow of air through it, a vacuum system to draw air through the exposed area of the test specimens. There is an arrangement to measure the volume of air flowing through the test specimen, and arrangement to measure the pressure drop between the faces of the test specimen. The test specimen is held between two round-shaped grips. The grips are lined with the rubber gasket to avoid the leakage of air through the edges. The two grips can be held the test specimens with the help of a hand operated screw mechanism. The vacuum needed to draw the air through the test specimens is created with the vacuum pump supplied with the instrument. The vacuum pressure is measured by the digital manometer (or manometer tube) in terms of mm of water level & airflow is measured by the Rotameters attached with the instrument. The equipment is metallic paint & bright chrome plating finish for corrosion resistant finishing.

The “ASIAN” Elmendorf Tear Tester consists of a brass sector pendulum pivoted on anti-friction ball bearings over a vertical bracket fixed on a rigid metallic base. The test specimen, in shape of a rectangular, is held between two clamps, one of which is mounted on a pendulum and the other is mounted on the vertical bracket. The clamps are mounted in such a manner that their holding faces are aligned with each other when the pendulum is released by lifting a release lever the action cause the pendulum to fall down under its weight & to tear the test specimen while doing so. Th energy absorbed during tearing is indicated on a scale fitted on pendulum by a low friction pointer pivoted on the axis of the pendulum. An adjustable knife is also mounted on the pendulum upper bracket is centered between the two clamps & is used for making the initial slit in the test specimen. The ASIAN Drape Meter consists of a circular specimen support, an electric lamp to give off light, and an exposing and developing arrangement using light sensitive ammonia paper to determined the area covered by the shadow of the test specimen, and an electric lamp to expose the ammonia paper to determine the area covered by the shadow of the test specimen. The circular specimen support is made out cast aluminum and is fixed over a clear acrylic sheet. The sheet is hinged at one end and can be lifted for placing the ammonia paper for exposure. The paper is kept below the acrylic sheet on a resilient surface so that it is in close contact with the sheet when it is horizontal. The specimen holding and paper exposing arrangement are kept inside a sheet metal exposing chamber. The electric lamp is fitted at the upper end of the chamber so that light rays coming from it are intercepted by the test specimen. The rays which are not intercepted fall on the paper and expose it, thus giving a demarcation between exposed and unexposed areas. The chamber has a close fittings door. It has ventilation holes near its bottom and top for keeping it cool. An ammonia vapor developing chamber in which the exposed paper is kept for developing is provided below the exposing chamber. This chamber has a close fitting door and an arrangement to keep ammonium hydroxide to create a suitable atmosphere for developing the print. The test specimen is kept over a welded wire mesh platform to ensure a uniform developing. The outside of the apparatus is finished in dark admiralty gray synthetic enamel to give it a corrosion resistant finish. A metal template of 250 mm diameter have a central hole for marking and cutting the test specimens, a specimen pressing a disc, one hundred sheets of ammonia process paper, and one bottle of ammonium hydroxide are supplied as standard accessories.

The “ASIAN” Bundesmann Apparatus is used for the water absorption and water penetration of the textile fabrics. It consists of a steel structure with specimens is rotated at a specified speed in this tank about a vertical axis with the help on an Electric motor and worm reduction gearbox placed underneath the tank. Impinging of water jets coming from nozzles on 304 Screws fitted on an aluminum plate produces the shower. The nozzles are fitted on aluminum blocks, which are in turn connected to a closed piping system. Water is supplied to the piping system through an electric pump. A control valve and a pressure gauge are also provided to regulate and indicate pressure in the pipeline. A guard is provided to contain splash produced. Water not impinging on the screws is also collected in this tray and drained away. This shower arrangement is mounted on the top of the structure to give the specified drop height. A hinged tray which can be swung during the testing is also provided to shield the assembly from the shower before and after the test. An arrangement to collect water circulation tank and re-circulate it with the help of the pump is also provided. The cup assembly consists of four aluminum cups with their axis tilted outward at 10º to 15º to the vertical mounted on an aluminum base. Specimen holding ring made of aluminum hold the specimen onto the cups with the help have screwed clamps. Each cup four-wiper blades set perpendicular to each other in the form of a cross. The wiper blades are made of stainless steel and are tapered down away from the center. The abrading face of each blade is cylindrical in shape. The wiper assembly presses against the lower surface of the test specimen with the help of a spring. The arrangement is also made to make the wiper blade assembly oscillate through an angle of 100º four times in every one revolution of the cup assembly. Gunmetal drain fitted to each cup for draining out the water collected in them. The cup assembly can be easily taken out to facilitate mounting of specimens and draining of water collected in the cups for determination of the amount of water that has penetrated through the specimens.
